People with autism sometimes have difficulty with transitions as they often tend to favor routine and rituals to maintain control of their environment, and it can be comforting to have things happen the same way each day. Transitions throw a monkey wrench into these routines because transitioning to another phase of life brings many changes, emotions, and different ways of doing things; as well as new opportunities. To assist individuals in making the most of those opportunities as they present themselves in the transition to adolescence and adulthood, a considerable amount of useful research has been conducted.
