A multidisciplinary approach is most successful when SLPs, OTs, and BCBAs collaborate together to promote the goals of the individuals... we serve.  But HOW?

Occupational therapy services enable clients to participate in their everyday life activities in their desired roles, contexts and environments, and life situations. Their scope of practice includes the following domains:

  • ADLs (Activities of Daily Living)
  • IADLs (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living)
  • Rest and Sleep
  • Education
  • Work
  • Play
  • Leisure
  • Social Participation

Except for Rest and Sleep, at a high level, these domains closely resemble the domains in ABA programs.

So… if a client is receiving both O/T and ABA services, who does what? More importantly, who should do what? Add to this conundrum, Speech domains and it becomes clear as mud.

Our LAST Webinar in our Collaboration series introduced an O/T, Speech and ABA Collaboration framework. We did this by analyzing a complex case in which all three providers are brought in to provide services for the same client. We developed a master “Client Independence Plan” from which to develop individual plans that are comprehensive, cohesive, and aligned with the master plan to ensure best, quickest outcomes for clients.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify the key members of a multidisciplinary team in the clinic, school, and community-based setting
  • Describe the history and competencies of the professions
  • Identify common terminology of between Occupational Therapists, Behavior Analysts, and Speech-Language Pathologists
  • List best practices in collaboration to achieve greater outcomes for the client/student across a lifespan

Presenter: Julie Riordan, OTR/L, BCBA
Panelist: Angelina (Gina) Vitucci, OTR/L
                Jennifer Rumfola, CCC-SLP, BCBA

NOTE:

Each purchase corresponds to 1 user license/access. Only the user assigned to a subscription will be able to participate in the live, receive the recorded version and obtain CEUs from the webinars. Access to the recorded version is valid for 1 month.
